Opposition activists in Angola have been jailed for holding a protest that called for transparency in upcoming elections in August.
The Seven activists will spend 45 days in prison over a protest attended by some 50 people.
The protest was not authorized and was held in Luanda at which the activists called for free and fair elections.
The judge in Cacuaco in Luanda in ruling said “The court condemns the accused to 45 days of imprisonment and a fine of 65,000 kwanzas ($390) for the offences of rebellion and association with criminals.”
President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is due to stand down this year and August’s elections will be crucial for the country.
New changes to the Angolan constitution in 2010 allows for the leader of the winning party to become president.
The current defence minister, Joao Lourenco is considered the likely successor to President Dos Santos who has ruled Angola since 1975.
