The Vice President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has asked the leaders of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to pay attention to the concerns of thousands of protesters who demonstrated this month demanding the exit of President Jacob Zuma.
There has been increased agitations in South Africa for Mr. Zuma to step down after he sacked his finance minister, Pravin Gordhan.
There are indications Mr. Zuma will step down as head of the ANC in December but he is not expected to willingly exit until his tenure as president ends in 2019.
Mr. Ramaphposa who is tipped to be vying to become leader of the ANC told the eNCA that “People of our country are taking to the streets. They’re raising their concerns, and I think what we should be doing as leaders is to listen to some of the concerns that are being raised.”
The Vice President’s comments are in sharp contrast to that of Mr. Zuma who has described some of the protesters as racist.
