Key members of Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF party have resigned over the lack of a succession plan for President Robert Mugabe who is 93 and has been ruling or decades now.
A minister and another senior official abandoned their positions in the party’s women’s wing on Wednesday.
Zanu PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo announced on Wednesday that Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Minister Eunice Sandi Moyo and Sarah Mahoka have resigned from their positions in the Women’s League.
Sandi Moyo and Sarah Mahoka were the Women’s League’s deputy secretary for women’s affairs and finance secretary, respectively.
The party accused these two officials of undermining the First Lady, Grace Mugabe and wasting party funds.
Khaya Moyo told journalists that the resignation by the two officials confirms their guilt of offending the party.
News24 reported that the duo was targeted after openly questioning the First Lady’s political ambitions during meetings of the Women’s League.
