A media summit in Accra, Ghana next week will be examining the role of digital media as millions of Africans continue to engage in various activities online via social media.
Many of these Africans largely spend a lot of time on social media, where they consume various forms of information. In some African countries, Protests have been organized via social media mobilization, attracted media coverage.
Some media practitioners in Ghana now want to examine the impact social media can have on the work of the media at a summit.
Giving details about the upcoming summit, a statement from the organizers said “Online is a new tool to better tell the story of Ghana to the world, to do business and to do this with a freedom. But, exactly how powerful is the world of online when it comes to media? What kinds of standards do we have? How are women treated in this brave, new digital world? What types of stories are we able to tell through digital media?”
Speakers at the summit on Tuesday April, 4 at the Webster University (Ghana Campus), East Legon will hope to find answers to these questions and further discuss the world of online and how stories are told, the standards that are upheld and how sex is treated online.
The #reImagineGH summit is in its 2nd year with its theme focusing on the 4 Ps: POWER, PROTEST, PROFIT, PAIN.
Hosted by Webster University (Ghana Campus), the media summit creator, panel moderator, and Webster faculty, Esther Armah, said “it is crucial for the world of media to gather and explore how we tell our stories, assess our standards, and confront how we deal with this issue of sex in this online space”.
Some of those speaking at the event include Anita Erskine – Broadcaster, Starr FM Radio Host, Nana Ama Agyemang Asante – Writer and Citi FM Morning Show Co-Host, Nana Akousa Hanson – Writer, Poet, YFM Broadcaster, Creator Let’s Talk Consent, Efo Dela – Blogger, Poet and Satirist and Kwame Acheampong – Deputy Editor, Starr FM online.
