Rebels from South Sudan have announced that they have taken control of a town on the Ugandan border.
The rebels also claim to have killed 14 soldiers in the fighting, but Reuters reported that the government has rejected the claims of the rebels calling it “ridiculous and unfounded”.
The SPLM-IO insurgents loyal to former vice president Riek Machar have also reportedly freed prisoners from the jail in Kajo-Keji.
The government however confirmed the raid describing those freed by the rebels as prisoners-of-war.
The government army spokesman Santo Domic Chol is quoted by Reuters as saying “It is lies created by the rebels that they have killed and captured people”.
Fighting in South Sudan between forces loyal to the President, Salva Kiir and rebels loyal to his rival and former Vice President, Riek Machar has left many dead, displacing several.
People in parts of the country are struggling to survive due to famine.
