A female Ghanaian minister has attracted public criticisms for her advice to young girls about mini skirt.
The Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba on Saturday told a group of young girls that wearing miniskirts that are provocative can attract rape.
She said “In conclusion, I want to say to you, be bold, be confident, be respectful. If you wear a short dress, it’s fashionable but, know that it can attract somebody who would want to rape or defile you”.
The minister was however hoping her comments will get young girls to avoid putting on provocative dresses. “You must be responsible for the choices you make,” she said.
But many Ghanaians are angry with her attempt to link dressing with getting raped. Some Ghanaians took to social media to express their concerns.
What Otiko said was wrong because it reinforces the patriarchal mindset that women must be subject to the wimps of men. #CitiCBS @Citi973
