The government of Benin has scrapped a policy that requires citizens of 31 African countries to secure short stay visa before entering the country.
That means nationals of these 31 African countries have been exempted from securing a visa before entering Benin if they intend staying for less than 90 days.
Benin’s President Patrice Talon who made the promise in August last year was inspired by the Rwandan example during a visit to Kigali.
During that visit he said “Based on the experience of Rwanda, I decided that Benin will no longer require visas for Africans. South-South cooperation can make real sense. My hope is that cooperation between Rwanda and Benin can serve as an example”.
Africanews has published a document from the Consulate General of Benin in Paris, dated January 10, 2017, that shows that nationals of 31 countries of the continent are now exempted from visa for Benin, for stays of a duration not exceeding 90 days.
