Nigerians on Monday staged a street protest to demand a change in how the affairs of their country are being managed.
The government has been struggling to contain an economy that is on the downturn as well as political tension heightened by the absence of the country’s president, Mahamadu Buhari
Mr. Buhari is currently on a medical leave in London. He had to ask for extension of this leave on Monday to continue with treatment. This created public uproar with many Nigerians worried about the health of their president.
Hundreds of Nigerians who participated in the street protest demanded a change in government.
The One Voice Nigeria protest was initially canceled by musician Innocent 2Face Idibia who was a brain behind the agitation.
Mr. Idibia was criticized by government officials for planning the protest. He told Nigerians on Instagram that “After due consultations, it has become clear that the One Voice Nigeria protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday, 6th February is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals”.
