Angola has been hit by a cholera epidemic. Three of the country’s provinces in the far north are the worst hit.
An emergency meeting on the epidemic has been held by officials in Angola to find a way out.
According to the AFP, ten people have died since mid-December out of the outbreak.
The Angolan Health Minister Luis Sambo told the media that “We have already recorded 150 cases of confirmed cholera, 10 of which have resulted in the death of the patients, 7 in the province of Zaire and 3 in the province of Cabinda”.
An emergency plan to curb the epidemic has been initiated. That will include “treating drinking water, enforcing rubbish collection, informing and educating communities.”
Angola continues to struggle to deal with cholera epidemics due to poverty and poor sanitary conditions in some provinces. There is inadequate access to water and health service as well.
