Officials in Nigeria have confirmed on Monday that a suicide bomber attacked a cattle market in the country’s northeastern town of Maiduguri.

A statement from the police said the bomber was a female and struck the Kasuwan Shanu market in the central district of Kasuwa at 07:40 GMT.

She was the only casualty in the blast.

Police have also said that another woman with a bomb was “lynched by an irate mob “. Her device was detonated by security officials.

This attack similar to those undertaken by the militant group Boko Haram is coming days after Nigeria’s President Mahamadu Buhari said Boko Haram is gradually being defeated.

The president said key camp belonging to the group has been taken over by state security forces.

Maiduguri is the city worst hit by Boko Haram.
