Senegalese international Saido Mane was on target deep into extra time as Liverpool moved to second on the English Premier League (PL) table.

The Anfield side won the Merseyside bragging rights after beating Everton away by a goal to nil on the last fixture for matchweek 17 of the PL.

Mane who scored with minutes to the end of added time admitted to the club’s television channel later that he was lucky to have been in the right place to slot home after striker Daniel Sturridge’s effort struck the post.

‘‘I was a bit lucky but i always wish to be lucky and score goals for the team. I’m thankful and very happy to score the winning goal for the team,’‘ he said.

Chelsea sit pretty atop the league going into the Christmas week. They are 6 points ahead of Liverpool who have 37 points. Manchester City and Arsenal are in third and fourth place with 36 and 34 points respectively.

Brief about Saido Mane

Even though the 24-year old started his career in France with Metz, he went on to join Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2012 before moving to the PL with Southampton in 2015. After a year he joined Liverpool for 34 million pounds making him the most expensive African signing.

He has over 30 appearances for the Senegal national side since he made his debut 4 years ago. He represented the team at the 2012 Olympics and at the African Cup of Nations in 2015. He is also expected to join the team in the upcoming championship in Gabon next month.
