Prisons officials in Ghana have managed to foil a jail break attempt at the country’s biggest detention center, the Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.
One of the country’s notorious criminals, Johnson Kombian and two other inmates were reported by a local radio station, Joy FM to have attempted escaping on Sunday.
The facility is now on a lock down.
A spokesperson for the country’s prisons service Courage Atsem, told local media that “There was an attempted escape [on Sunday], which was foiled by the officers on duty. Everybody is in intact. The Police have begun a full-scale investigation into the incident to get the full details of what occurred”.
Johnson Kombian was sentenced to death by hanging last year for murdering policemen in the northern Ghana.
