The African National Congress (ANC) party in South Africa has served notice that the planned “no-confidence” motion against the country’s president Jacob Zuma will not succeed.
The South African Parliament is due to debate the motion on November 10 after the opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) party called for it.
The DA made the call after the anti-corruption watchdog in a report ordered a further probe into corruption allegations against Mr. Zuma.
The secretary-general of the ANC party, Gwede Mantashe told journalists on Tuesday that “This vote of no-confidence has no chance of succeeding. The DA has now made this an annual and frivolous ritual that is fast losing its meaning”.
Mr. Mantashe said the said report from the anti-graft watchdog did not indict anyone making the calls for Mr. Zuma to resign “premature”.
Mr. Zuma has always denied his government granted undue influence to the wealthy Gupta family. The Guptas have denied any wrongdoing as well.
The South African leader has survived two no-confidence votes this year.
