Scores of parents and pupils in Uganda on Monday marched on the streets of the country’s capital Kampala.
They have been protesting the closure of private schools owned by US social enterprise, Bridge International.
The Bridge Academy schools are low cost and affordable for many parents but the Ministry of Education claims the schools do not have proper sanitary conditions and qualified teachers.
A high court in Uganda ordered the shutting down of several bridge academy schools last week for not complying with the national curriculum of Uganda.
The closure of the schools has affected 63 primary schools with more than 12,000 pupils.
Bridge International backed by US Billionaire, Bill Gates and founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg offers what it calls cheap but quality education to poor children.
