Grace Mugabe the wife of Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has told a campaign rally that the corpse of his husband will be fielded for election should he die.
Mrs. Mugabe said such a move will show the world that Zimbabweans still love her husband even in death.
President Mugabe 92, last December was confirmed as his party’s sole candidate for the next presidential election next year. He will be 94 by then.
At that confirmation supporters sang a song titled “Mugabe should rule until eternity” as the veteran leader rose to give a speech in which he called for an end to infighting within the ruling ZANU-PF over his eventual successor.
Mr. Mugabe said at the event that “We came with our problems, which we heard. We also came knowing we had differences. We agreed our differences should end and fighting should stop”.
Mrs. Mugabe who has been tipped by many to be aspiring to succeed her husband told the campaign rally on Friday that President Mugabe is still loved by many contrary to what his critics and opponents want others to believe.
President Mugabe is the only ruler Zimbabwe knows since independence from Britain in 1980.
