A Ghanaian beauty queen has narrated how she was tortured at a fetish shrine in eastern Ghana over a missing $90.

The 24-year old was a contestant in this year’s Miss Commonwealth Ghana beauty pageant, placing third.

But getting closer to the end of the competition she was accused by organizers of the event of stealing $90.

Nana Ama Essien told local media Adom FM that she was dragged to a shrine Koforidua, Eastern Ghana where she was subjected to the humiliation and torture.

She alleges that at the said shrine, she, together with nine others, were given eggs to undergo a ritual to reveal who stole the money.

“We were presented with eggs which were instructed by the chief priest to throw into the air and allow for a free fall where the owner of an egg that failed to break would be deemed guilty of the offence,” Nana Ama narrated.

But Nana Ama said her egg didn’t break because it turned out to be a cooked one. She was pronounced guilty and subjected to what she calls a “painful ordeal”.

“They stripped me naked and beat me with the back of a cutlass for stealing the money, put my finger in hot palm oil, threatening to chop it off if I don’t confess,” she said.

Nana Ama claimed during her ordeal at the shrine, the CEO of Ms. Commonwealth, Princess Duncan, was taking videos of the assault.

The case was reported to the police who have since arrested Princess Duncan.
