While in Ghana Nancy Pelosi will lead the congressional delegation to the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles and the “Door of No Return” to participate in the Year of Return activities.
The Year of Return activity is offering Africans in the Diaspora the chance to return to the continent and reconnect, 400 years after the first set of slaves left the shores of Africa to the USA.
Fitting and proper
Majority Whip James Clyburn, Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus who is also part of the delegation said “I consider this to be a fitting and proper way to commemorate the 400th year since the enslaved people were forced to leave their homeland and sent in bondage to the New World.
I seek to pay homage to the sacrifices of our African ancestors and honor the contributions they made to building the United States of America.”
