Amr Warda has been reinstated in Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations squad, the country’s FA has confirmed.

Warda had originally been dropped for ‘behavioural reasons’ after he reportedly ‘sent aggressive and inappropriate sexual messages’ to an Instagram model.

The claims were made by Egyptian-British model Merhan Keller, who then shared testimonies of other women approached on social media by the PAOK forward, sharing videos and screenshots.

Despite the evidence, team-mates showed support, with Mohamed Salah suggesting he ‘should not be sent to the guillotine.

‘Women must be treated with the utmost respect. “No” means “no”. Those things are and must remain sacred,’ the Liverpool forward wrote.

‘I also believe that many who make mistakes can change for the better and shouldn’t be sent straight to the guillotine, which is the easiest way out.’

Aston Villa defender and Egypt captain Ahmed Elmohamady also showed solidarity by making the No 22 gesture with his fingers after scoring against DR Congo – the shirt number of Warda.
