The President of Senegal, Macky Sall has promised to do better in his second term as leader of the West African nation.

On Tuesday he was officially declared winner of last month’s presidential elections.

The constitutional council confirmed his re-election with 58 percent of votes. Opposition candidate Idrissa Seck secure second spot with 21 percent of votes.

The third candidate in the election with 16 percent of votes is Ousmane Sonko. Over 66 percent of the 6.7 million registered voters participated in the process.

The opposition parties insisted that there was the likelihood of a second round of voting.

But they didn’t file a complaint to the constitutional court.

Macky Sall told his supporters that “this renewed trust motivates me to work twice as hard, to do more and better.”

Sall is now expected to be sworn-in on April 2 to continue in power. He first came into power seven years ago.

Last month’s voting was peaceful helping to prolong Senegal’s status as one of the most stable democracies in West Africa.

Since its independence in 1960, Senegal has not witnessed a coup making it one of the most stable countries in Africa as well.
