Six referees in Ghana have been banned for life for taking bribe. The Referees’ Association of Ghana (RAG) announced the ban following an investigation into bribery allegations against several referees.
The Referees’ Association of Ghana in a statement said 47 match officials have also been banned for 10 years each.
But 14 others after the investigations were exonerated. The statement said those facing lifetime bans “were found culpable for seriously breaching various portions of Disciplinary Code, Code of the Ethics and Regulations of the football controlling bodies by their actions and inactions.”
Last month the Confederation of African Football banned seven Ghanaian referees for 10 years over bribery allegations.
One other referee was banned for life by CAF. These referees are prevented from engaging in an CAF related football activities.
The referees were implicated in a bribery allegation uncovered by Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
Anas screened his documentary on corruption in Ghana and West Africa in June.
The referees were captured in some aspects of the documentary taking bribe to influence matches.
The local Referees Association says those given a ban have until October 1 to appeal against the rulings.
