Ghanaian officials have announced the arrest of a Tanzanian woman for carrying narcotic drugs with street value of $70,000.
Basaida Zena Jafary, according to Ghana’s Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) arrived in Ghana at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on-board Rwanda Air flight.
The food vendor from Tanzania was arrested whilst going through arrival formalities this month.
A statement from Ghana’s NACOB said a search conducted on Jafary’s check-in luggage revealed a concealment of two parcels in false compartments.
The content of the woman’s parcel proved positive for narcotics substance during preliminary test conducted in her presence.
Local media Starr FM reported that the suspect has appeared in court and pleaded guilty to her offence and was subsequently handed a five-year prison sentence.
