Kenya Airways has announced that it will from October this year begin daily direct flights to the United States to boost its annual revenue.
The airline’s CEO Sebastian Mikosz said on Thursday that the new move should rake in increased revenue of 10 percent from 2019.
Kenya Airways said there would be flights between Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and New York’s JFK Airport.
Standard Media reported that the airline on Thursday started selling tickets for the inaugural and subsequent flights between Nairobi and New York.
Travellers will be able to book early tickets for $869, but the seats on sale for this price are limited with cost likely to increase as bookings go up.
Chairman of the airline Michael Joseph said “This is a symbol of a comeback by Kenya Airways. It will determine the future of KQ and also shows the determination that KQ has to return to being the pride of Africa.”
In September last year the airline was granted approval to operate flights in the US by the department of transportation.
The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was earlier in 2017 granted a Category One status by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after the airport upgraded its security features.
