The Gambian commission tasked to investigate former President of the country, Yahya Jammeh and his finances on Friday started its hearings.
The probe has become necessary after the new government especially the country’s ministry of justice said millions of dollars belonging to the public were stolen by Mr. Jammeh during his reign for decades.
Three individuals all bankers and the director of the revenue service appeared before the commission to answer questions for the start of the public hearings.
Much details will emerge out of the hearing as officials hope to better understand the dealings of Mr. Jammeh during his tenure and alleged disappearance of state funds.
The commission is made up of five members who are looking into claims of abuse of power, embezzlement of public funds, and possible violations of the constitution.
President Jammeh was forced out of power after losing last year’s presidential elections won by current president, Adama Barrow.
Jammeh is currently in exile in Equatorial Guinea.
