Six insurgents have been killed by the army in Nigeria’s Borno state, according to army officials.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the insurgents were killed in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno in an operation meant to dislodge activities of Boko Haram in the state.
In a statement the public relations director of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman said on Wednesday that the insurgents were killed on Monday.
“Troops of 22 Brigade Dikwa under 7 Division of Operation LAFIA DOLE in conjunction with Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), ambushed suspected Boko Haram terrorists between Bulabirin and Mongole villages in the area. During the encounter, the troops neutralised six terrorists, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries,” the statement said.
Brig. Gen. Sani Usman said the Nigerian Army is committed to sustaining its war against Boko Haram in Nigeria.
He sent a message to supporters of Boko Haram saying “This is to call on the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists wherever they are hiding, (to surrender) and give up forthwith. This is because your ideology of Boko Haram is dead and no longer tenable.”
