Ghana has announced a suspension of its three week lockdown on major cities in the country despite the tally of coronavirus cases hitting 1042.
The country’s President, Nana Akufo Addo on Sunday evening said in a televised speech that the lifting of the restriction on movements is due to effective management of the pandemic.
Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa cities were placed under a three-week lockdown when the country started recording cases.
The partial lockdown was meant to help contain the spread of the virus in the cities deemed the epicenter in Ghana.
Restrictions however remain on public social gatherings while borders are also remaining closed for the mean time.
Ghanaians in the various cities where the lockdown has been lifted can now resume work but under health guidelines, according to the President.
President Akufo Addo has however urged citizens to wear facemasks as they regain their freedoms once more to stop the spread of the virus.
The President said in his speech that there are still some 18,000 backlog of samples yet to be declared.
Ghana is one of the leading countries in Africa to have conducted over 60,000 tests, something that has been commended by the president.
