Ghana is to deport 10 Guinean nationals who have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to officials they arrived in Ghana before the country’s borders were closed to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The government’s joint committee on health and security got them isolated after their presence in the country was revealed.
Ghana’s Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told a news conference in Accra that all the Guineans subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 although they showed no signs.
“These persons as part of the enhanced surveillance were brought to the attention of the regional security and health team and 11 days ago, were put into self-isolation. They were asked to self-isolate 11 days ago and then were tested. The test result came in this morning around 10am” he announced.
The Minister also indicated that arrangements are being completed for their repatriation and treatment.
“The information I have is that the Ghanaian and other West African authorities are completing arrangements so that they can be repatriated to their country of origin so that treatment to take place there. So they will not be treated in this jurisdiction,” he said.
Ghana currently has a total of 152 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus.
The country’s two major cities, Accra and Kumasi are now on a lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus.
