46 African countries have now reported a total of 3,977 cases of coronavirus with 117 deaths and 286 recoveries across the continent.

South Africa as a single country has the highest number of cases at 1,170 but north Africa as a region has the highest number of cases.

Many African countries are now enforcing lockdowns and curfews to prevent movement of people to contain the spread of the virus.

The African continent since the outbreak of the Coronavirus had recorded relatively low numbers compared to other continents.

Current numbers interms of cases, deaths and recoveries are still relatively low but the rate of spread appears to be increasing.

There are concerns about emerging reports of the virus now spreading in local communities.

The local infection rate is gradually surging although most of the earlier cases confirmed were imported.

The Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government have already held a Teleconference on COVID-19.

Countries are hoping to contribute to a fund to help Africa’s response to the fight against the pandemic.

Globally cases have hit over 600,000 with deaths now more than 20,000.
