Nigeria is for now Coronavirus free after all of its two cases have now tested negative.

Both first and second Coronavirus patients have now fully recovered, according to health officials.

The second patient with confirmed case of coronavirus in Nigeria no longer has the virus in his system, according to officials.

That patient would be discharged from the treatment centre in Lagos, the health ministry said.

Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said the person, who had contact with the index case, had no symptoms of the COVID 19.

The first case was an Italian who was receiving treatment in Lagos. He would be discharged next week, according to health officials.

The minister also said, “Between January 7 and March 12, 2020, a total of 42 people who met our case definition have been screened for COVID 19 in Edo, Lagos, Ogun, Yobe, Rivers and Kano states, and the Federal Capital Territory.

“40 tested negative and two were confirmed positive. These two are the index case and a contact with the index case. No death has been recorded.”

Meanwhile all 179 people on isolation who had contact with the index case have also been released.

More African countries are recording new cases of the coronavirus with countries with cases now over 12 and number of cases surpassing 110.

Many African countries are now taking precautionary measures to contain the spread of the disease.

But relatively Africa’s number of infection is still a very small number compared to other countries outside the continent.
