Kenya’s High Court on Friday ordered flights from China to be halted temporarily as fears over the outbreak of Coronavirus grow.

So far Africa has recorded three cases with Nigeria being the latest country to confirm a case.

Kenya is yet to record any case of coronavirus but a petition by the Law Society of Kenya demanded that flights from China bed halted.

The outbreak started from China’s Wuhan city and appears to be moving quickly across the world.

“I find that unless conservatory orders sought are granted Kenyans will continue to be exposed to the deadly disease coronavirus,” Judge James Makau said in his ruling.

China Southern Airlines flights on the Guangzhou-Changsha-Nairobi route have all been suspended since 11 February.

The suspension was lifted on Wednesday with 239 passengers arriving in Kenya. But the move sparked outrage leading to the court action.

More than 78,000 cases of the respiratory disease have been recorded.

Victims of coronavirus often suffer from respiratory illness and this new strain of coronavirus was not previously identified in humans.
