Wife of Lesotho’s prime minister, Maesaiah Thabane has been charged with murdering her rival.

Maesaiah Thabane is facing allegations of killing the ex-wife of Prime minister, Thomas Thabane.

The First Lady on Tuesday reported herself for questioning at a police station after her husband also faced questioning about the killing.

Police spokesman Mpiti Mopeli told AFP news agency that the first lady was “picked from the border” with South Africa on Tuesday.

She was detained ahead of the official charging in court on Wednesday after an arrangement between her lawyers and police.

Meanwhile police say eight others in Lesotho and South Africa would face murder charges as well.

Lipolelo Thabane, the ex-wife of Thomas Thabane, according to police was shot dead outside her home in the capital Maseru just before the prime minister’s inauguration in 2017.

Thomas and Lipolelo Thabane as a couple got involved in a very bitter divorce proceedings before her death.

An arrest warrant was only issued for the first lady on 10 January this year after she disappeared.

Earlier the murder of Lipolelo death was believed to have been carried out by unknown armed men.

It was only recently revealed through court papers filed by the country’s police commissioner, Holomo Molibeli, that there could be more to it.

Molibeli asked the prime minister to answer questions regarding his estranged wife’s killing.
