Heavy rains in Ethiopia have led to a deadly landslide that has killed at least 22 people.
Scores of people in the Konta district of Southern Ethiopia are reported to have been displaced by the disaster.
Heavy rains were recorded on Sunday in the district with fears of further destruction if the rains continue to fall.
Local media reported that many homes and properties have been lost in the landslide.
Efforts are ongoing to retrieve dead bodies and rescue those trapped and in dire need of help.
So far excavators have dug through the mud with seventeen bodies recovered so far.
BBC quotes a local official Fasika Mulugeta as saying that “Thirteen of the victims are women.”
Local officials are now asking for federal and state governments to intervene to save lives and property.
Last month seven people were killed in the same Dawuro zone of Southern regional state from a landslide.
Ethiopia is in the midst of a rainy season which started in July. It was expected to last until mid-September.
But the rains have continued into October creating concerns and fears of major landslides in parts of the East African country.
