Police in Ghana have confirmed the death of four girls that went missing in 2018 in Western Ghana.
The girls were reported to have been kidnapped but bodies believed to belong to them were discovered in August of this year.
Police confirmed retrieving some bodies from a septic tank behind a house, one of the suspects used to live in.
The key suspect in the case led the special operation team of the police to the scene where the bodies were kept.
Although it was widely reported that the bodies could be that of the missing girls, the police said it was going to conduct a forensic test on the bodies.
On Monday evening the Police confirmed that the four missing girls in the Western regional capital Takoradi were dead.
The Ag. Inspector of General of Ghana’s Police service, James Oppong Boanuh made the announcement in Accra at a press briefing.
He said the results of the DNA test on remains retrieved in Takoradi have been relayed to the families along with condolences.
The girls named Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21, Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 18; Ruth Love Quayson 18, and Ruth Abeka were kidnapped between August and December 2018.
Two Nigerian suspects are standing trial over the kidnapping of the girls.
Ghanaian officials had said investigators from the United Kingdom and the United States of America were helping to search for some girls.
But months of delay in locating the girls sparked outrage on social media. There were protests as well from family members.
