Four persons have been killed in a boat disaster in Eastern part of Ghana.
Local media reported that those killed were among some eleven people who were traveling in a boat that capsized on the Volta Lake.
Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organization officials have told the media that the boat was traveling from Senchi to New Akrade when it overturned.
According to local media divers and fishermen are still searching for the one person after rescuing some of the survivors.
CITI FM quoted a Ghanaian disaster organisation official, Selasie Desewu as saying that “six of the occupants have been rescued.
Four of the bodies have been recovered and there is a search ongoing to find the extra one person left.”
Another news outlet JOY FM reported that those on the boat were all returning from church.
They are believed to be members of the Assemblies of God church.
Another official Lilian Okai toldl Joy FM that the passengers were not wearing life jackets.
She is quoted as saying that “a few metres after they had set off, they realized the water was entering the boat so they decided to return but unfortunately the boat capsized.”
