Gunmen have killed the uncle of a young Nigerian senator, Elisha Abbo. His stepmother has also been abducted by the gunmen.

Police in Adamawa on Saturday confirmed the killing and abduction reports to local media.

Spokesman for the police, DSP Suleiman Yahaya said the incident occurred on Saturday at about 3 a.m. at the Abbo’s family house.

The family house is located in Muchalla Village of Mubi North Local Government Area.

According to police officials, the abductors had initially planned to take away the senator’s step mother identified as Rifkatu.

But they killed Abbo’s uncle when he came out of his house nearby to raise the alarm. The gunmen immediately shot him to death and then fled.

“Our men from the Inspector General of Police team are after them,” Yahaya is quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria as saying.

Senator Elisha Abbo was recently in the news for assault a sex toy shop attendant.

He was arraigned on charges of assault at the Zuba Magistrates’ Court in Abuja.

Elisha Abbo is Nigeria’s youngest senator said the incident happened on 11 March 2019.
