Many Africans have been celebrating the penalty miss by Luis Suarez at the Copa America championship.

Luis Suarez was the only player from Uruguay to miss in the shootout as the fifteen-times Copa America champions suffered a quarter-final exit on Saturday to Peru.

Edison Flores from Peru sealed his country’s place in the last four by blasting past Uruguay’s goal keeper, Fernando Muslera.

Uruguay lost the match losing 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw during 90 minutes of play.

Suarez, Uruguay’s all-time top scorer was seen wailing after the defeat.

But many especially Africans seem to be happy with Suarez’ anguish on social media.

Suarez’s history with Africa

The Barcelona striker played a critical role in Ghana’s black stars missing out on a place at the semi-finals of the 2010 world cup.

Suarez handled a ball that was heading towards goal which could have sent an African team to the last four for the first time in the world cup.

He was shown a red card but Ghana missed the penalty awarded afterwards sending the match to extra time.

Ghana went on to lose the match in penalties to Uruguay. Since then many Africans have never been ‘happy’ with Suarez.
