A powerful landslide on Wednesday has killed at least six people in Uganda with dozens reported injured.
The landslide occurred in the Eastern Ugandan district of Bududa. Scores are reported missing as search teams look for those missing.
Wednesday’s landslide in Butebulo and Bunamwamba Villages in Buwali Sub County followed three-days of downpour.
The disaster has displaced hundreds of people who are now sheltering in churches, mosques or with relatives.
Landslides do often happen in border areas between Uganda and Kenya with 300 people dying seven years ago from a landslide.
Uganda’s government has said that over 100,000 people living in the area affected now need aid.
The office of Prime Minister said in a statement that “there are reports of displacement and destruction of property as well as missing persons.”

Uganda’s Red Cross said in a statement that “Preliminary information coming through indicates that around 150 houses could be destroyed, five people are suspected to be dead and around 50 missing.”
Just last year at least 41 people were killed after a river in the same region burst its banks.
