A Nigerian student, Ahmed Abubakar has stabbed one of his colleagues to death.

The suspect and the deceased are all students of the Government Day Secondary School in Katsina State.

The 18-year-old student according to local media allegedly killed his colleague, Mikailu Mustapha after they quarrelled over a girl.

Police in the Katsina state said the suspect also known as Sha’aban, stabbed the deceased Mustapha during  a misunderstanding.

It is not clear what sparked the quarrel and why a misunderstanding ensued between them over the girl.

Abubakar confessed his crime to the police and will now be facing trial.

He has already been arraigned before a Katsina Magistrates’ Court for culpable homicide.

A police prosecutor, ASP Sani Ado on Thursday told the court the incident is still being investigated.

Abubakar has been remained in prison custody until hearing of his case resumes on June 11.
