A church in Ghana has forbidden its members from taking “sexually” suggestive pre-wedding photos.
According to leaders of the Pentecost Church, the ban was necessary since would-be couples flagrantly abused the act.
The Pentecost church has about 20,000 branches worldwide and more than 3 million members.
The ban was announced by the church’s General Secretary, Apostle Nana Yaw Kumi on Saturday 26 at a Global Ministers’ Conference (PCC) in Central Ghana.
“During the pre-engagement time, under the guise of courting, they would be taking all sorts of pictures and spread it all over the place, and the pictures suggest they are already married,” Kumi is quoted as saying by local online news portal Starrfmonline.com.
“You would realise that where they are touching and what they are doing are things that are supposed to be done by married couples. So we really want to discourage that…
“Some are even bold enough to bring it on the day of the celebration of the marriage, you see them on the screen – somebody has raised the lady, sitting on his lap, touching this place and all that. We really want to discourage it that is what mean by modestly and decently,” he added.
The church further barred alcoholic beverages and circular songs with “ungodly” lyrics during wedding receptions.
There have been mixed reactions to the ban on the pre-wedding shoot among Ghanaians on social media.
