Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed that many people wished him dead.
The Nigerian leader whose health status has been a major issue on Sunday denied claims that he had died and was replaced by a Sudanese impostor.
There have been reports on social media that Buhari was dead and instead one Jubril Aminu from Sudan is parading as Buhari’s cloned version.
But President Buhari for the first time reacted to these rumours when asked about the issue in Poland during a town hall meeting with Nigerians.
He said “It’s real me, I assure you. I will soon celebrate my 76th birthday and I will still go strong.”
Buhari is seeking re-election in February next year. But during his presidency he spent months in London receiving medical treatment.
The 75 year old leader says “a lot of people hoped that I died during my ill health.
Some even reached out to the Vice- President (Prof. Yemi Osinbajo) to consider them to be his deputy because they assumed I was dead.
“That embarrassed him (Osinbajo) a lot and of course, he visited me when I was in London convalescing… It’s real me; I assure you.”
