There is outrage from many South Africans after a seven year old girl was raped in a restaurant toilet.

Police say the girl was raped allegedly by a 20-year-old man who followed her into the women’s restroom. The man then pulled the girl into a men’s washroom before raping her.

The Pretoria eatery where the seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped has confirmed the incident.

In a statement the eatery said “Dros Head office hereby confirms that an incident (involving a minor child) took place at one of its franchise outlets‚ namely Dros Water Meyer‚ situated in Silverton‚ Pretoria.”

The suspect has been arrested by the police and charged with rape and possessing drugs. He appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody.

South Africa is among the top countries globally with with one of the highest incidences of rape.

Many South Africans are unhappy with the country’s justice system in dealing with rapists.
