Hundreds of people are reported dead from floods in Nigeria. Officials say the deaths were recorded across the country.
But according to officials the highest death toll was recorded in the north-central state of Niger.
The country has been battling the floods for weeks now with many displaced and struggling to rebuild their lives.
Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (Nema) says the floods were caused by heavy rains.
The rains have caused the country’s two major rivers, Niger River and Benue River to overflow.
Residents living along waterways and close to these rivers have now been asked to relocate to safe places.
Flooding in Nigeria is perennial and rural areas are usually the worst hit. Local media reports that dozens of areas have been submerged in flood water.
Homes and farmlands have also been destroyed extensively by the floods.
Meanwhile Nigerian authorities say more floods are expected in the coming days and weeks due to heavy rains.
There are indication the country’s officials could declare a state of emergency over the disaster.
