The second edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) has been slated for October 12 and 13, 2018 at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel in Accra, Ghana.
Ahead of the event, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has received over 600 entries of outstanding stories from journalists across 12 countries in West Africa.
The entries which cover print, electronic and online media were received from about 250 journalists from over 150 media houses across the region.
These outstanding works of journalism have come in many categories including Health, Anti-Corruption, Investigative, Oil and Gas reporting, and ECOWAS and Regional Integration Reporting.
The entries will be evaluated by a team of judges made up of distinguished, experienced and renowned journalists and media experts. The list of finalists for WAMECA 2018 will be announced in early October.
The West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards is an initiative of the MFWA to promote media excellence in the sub region.
The Conference will deliberate on key challenges to media development and explore ways to support the media to promote good governance, regional integration and peace in West Africa.
The Awards Ceremony will also honour West African journalists who have produced compelling works which have had significant impact on society.
