27 supporters of the Zimbabwe opposition have been freed by a court Tuesday. Their lawyers have now succeeded with a bail application which was earlier denied.
They were arrested last week following the eruption of violence after a historic election. The incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared winner.
The opposition supporters were disputing the election results after their leader, Nelson Chamisa claimed that the results were rigged.
The violence led to the death of six people who were shot at by soldiers. Prosecutors are charging the supporters for the six deaths.
Lawyers for the accused have argued that some of them had nothing to do with the protest.
Over the weekend these supporters were denied bail but on Tuesday a Magistrate court granted $50 bail to each of them.
An MDC lawyer Denford Halimani said after the hearing that “The court has indicated that it did not consider any of them to be a flight risk. The judgment was so brilliant that we are still trying to process it.”

Meanwhile the leadership of the Zimbabwe opposition says some of its activists are still missing.
The party’s spokesperson Nkululeko Sibanda alleges that abductions and raids have taken place.
He said these are acts intended to intimidate the MDC from challenging the elections results.
Nelson Chamisa who leads the MDC party has said his party plans to file a motion in court over the election results.
