CAF bans seven Ghanaian referees for 10 years

The Confederation of African Football has banned seven Ghanaian referees for 10 years over bribery allegations.

One other referee was however banned for life by CAF.

These referees are prevented from engaging in an CAF related football activities.

The referees were implicated in a bribery allegation uncovered by Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Anas screened his documentary on corruption in Ghana and West Africa in June.

The referees were captured in some aspects of the documentary taking bribe to influence matches.

CAF’s sanctions were determined at a meeting of its Disciplinary Board on August 5.

A CAF statement said that the banned referees include;

1. David Laryea, Assistant Referee (Ghana): life ban from all CAF related football activities;
2. Lathbridge Reginald, Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
3. Nantierre Eric, Assistant Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
4. Mr. Fleischer Cecil, Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
5. Mr. Ouedraogo Dawood, Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
6. Mr. Salifu Malik, Assistant Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
7. Mrs. Akongyam Theresa, Women Assistant Referee (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF related football activities;
8. Mr. Wellington Joseph, Technical Instructor (Ghana): 10 years ban from all CAF
   related football activities.
