There is anger among Ghanaians after news of the death of a 70-year-old man turned away from seven hospitals.

The hospitals located in the capital Accra refused to take care of the patient claiming they had no beds.

The patient, Prince Anthony Opoku Acheampong, a Printing Press business operator in the capital finally died in his car.

The cry of a son

The son of the deceased, Obiri Yeboah told Accra based Starr FM that his family begged doctors at all the hospitals to provide care but it was declined.

One doctor is quoted as saying “there is nothing I can do” although he failed to even assess the patient.

Health sector reaction

Heath officials in the country say the facilities that turned the patient away may have committed some errors.

They have launched investigations into the incident.

The Vice President of the Ghana’s Medical Association, Dr Frank Serebuor is quoted by Starr FM as saying “Whatever facility that turned the patient away should be made to answer”

“and tell us into detail why that happened and question them whether they had alternatives and what could have been done”.

Outrage from Ghanaians

Many Ghanaians are angry at the development and have called for reforms in the health sector.

They took to social media to express their anger.
