Officials in Ghana have confirmed that a police post in the country’s capital Accra was attacked on Sunday by armed men who killed a police officer at the station and freed seven suspects.

The suspects that were freed were in police custody after they were arrested for various robbery activities. One of the suspects is a Nigerian.

The police service in Ghana issued a statement asking the public to help in re-arresting the suspects after releasing photographs of them as well.

A member of Ghana’s parliament Seth Kwame Acheampong told Starr FM that “It is a crime and it must be met with the requisite response. We must not allow anybody to usurp the authority of this country.

“Our security system has never failed us, we are living in a very comfortable ambience…it is a very resolute security system…you will have one or two incidents such as this but our security is tight.”

Police in Accra have now launched a manhunt for the suspects, but the safety of police officers has come up for public discourse after deaths of at least 8 police officers were recorded in the past months.
