Officials in Madagascar have announced that over 120 prisoners have escaped from a detention facility in north-eastern part of the country.
AFP reported that the inmates broke jail to escape after a mob stormed the facility in search of a murder suspect.
According to the justice ministry about 120 prisoners have escaped from a jail.
The said mob made up of over 800 people reportedly overpowered guards and entered the Ikongo prison on Wednesday.
The intention of the mob according to officials was to kill the said murder suspect.
Spokesman for the justice ministry, Jeremy Napou was quoted by the AFP as saying that the attackers allowed 120 prisoners to break free.
“After they realised that the person they were looking for had already been moved to another facility”, Napou added.
