Gunmen have killed a German tourist in Ethiopia’s northern remote Afar region also injuring his tour guide.
On Tuesday officials in the east African country confirmed the incident saying the attack occurred on Sunday evening.
Reuters reported that the tourist had camped near the Erta Ale volcano, according to security officials.
Government spokesman Negeri Lencho who confirmed the incident to Reuters was quoted as saying that “The perpetrators of the attack are being sought by security forces”.
The Afar province borders Eritrea and has been prone area for activities of separatist rebels operating in the area.
This is not the first time such an attack is taking place in Ethiopia. In 2012 five European tourists were also killed and two others kidnapped in the same Afar province.
