Ghana is reported to be experiencing shortage in condoms and sex lubricants raising fears of possible outbreak of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Starr FM in Accra reported that the country is also without enough drugs to treat Tuberculosis patients.
According to local media reports the disclosures were made by anti-HIV/AIDS advocacy organizations in the West African nation who have said that current challenges could derail progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis.
These NGOs who operate in the health sector discussed these issues at a review meeting on Tuesday.
A health advocate in Ghana Dr Cecilia Senoo, is quoted by Starr FM to have said that Ghana’s government “must be committed to fulfilling its obligations to ensure the improvement of healthcare delivery in the country.”
“We are yet to check with the Ghana Health Service and Ministry of Health about the shortage, however, these reports are from the very people who are directly involved with the situation, and that makes it very serious,” Senoo added.
Government officials are yet to respond to these claims of shortages.
