Officials in Ethiopia have put the number of deaths from last Saturday’s landslide at a dumping site in Addis Ababa at 113.
The landslide at the refuse dump in Koshe has also left several people living around the site injured and about thirty houses destroyed.
There were initial fears the earlier number of 48 deaths could increase as rescuers locate new bodies while families report of missing relatives.
The spokesperson for the city of Addis Ababa, Dagmawit Moges told Reuters that “The total number of dead has reached 113, of which 38 are male and 75 are female”.
She said “Searches are taking place and the number could rise”.
The government declared three days of national mourning for those dead while the first funerals took place on Tuesday.
The Reppi dump site has existed for 50 years and has been has been home for many residents.
